A perfect example of a Russian war capture K98k. Stock of laminate complete with stock hole and tube. Manufactured 1939 by Mauser at Borsigwalde as per the code stamped 243 on the upper side of the breech. Original Ser No on the barrel and main body of 2228 and Weimar Republic acceptance proofs on the LHS of the main body and barrel. Mod 98 stamped on LHS of main body. A plethora of Nazi Waffenamt marks are present! All appear to be genuine. The butt plate is marked Brg 41 WaA497 – manufactured by H W Schmidt, Dobeln.
Every characteristic of it being Russian Capture are present – no cleaning rod, the ‘X’ on the breech (although it is generally found on the LHS), the electro-plated numbers on the trigger guard and bolt, the removal of the capture screws and the re-bluing.
A lovely example with a very good bore. A truly historic piece.
